Travel to Chiang Mai by the historical route and take in Thailand's old kingdom's of Ayutthaya, Phitsanulok and Sukhothai. This Bangkok to Chiang Mai Tour is a great alternative to traveling direct as we will take in some of Thailand's famous temples, wats and historical heritage which is missed by most travelers between Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
TOUR DESCRIPTION
Day 1
We will pick you up at your Bangkok hotel and commence our trip with a one-and-a-half-hour drive to Siam's old capital of Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya was said to have been one of the most beautiful cities in the world in its time and the heart of the thriving Siamese Kingdom situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. You will see some of the remains of over 400 stone temples and Buddhist statues. We will continue the journey north to the important historical town of Phitsanulok where we will visit Phitsanulok's most important temple: Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat (Wat Yai) and a small bronze Buddha image casting foundry where you will have the opportunity to witness skilled craftspersons working on the reproductions of Phra Buddha Chinnarat images and watch the casting process (closed Mondays and Tuesdays and public holidays). Our day will finish when we transfer you to your Phitsanulok hotel. We suggest spending the evening taking in the local night market.

Day 2
We will pick you up from your Phitsanulok hotel and commence the drive to Sukhothai. Sukhothai was founded in the 13th century as the first truly independent Thai Kingdom we will take you around the ancient city of Sukhothai where you can see the magnificent remnants of temples and Buddha statues within Sukhothai's Historical Park. After Sukhothai, we will proceed to Lampang province where we will stop at the cities most important Temple Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang. Following Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, we will make our way towards Chiang Mai and transfer you to your chosen Chiang Mai hotel.

You are touring in a hot climate wear comfortable cool attire. Shorts and t-shirt or similar clothing are good for this tour. Rain is possible at any time of the year but more likely during the rainy season months of May to October - bring a lightweight raincoat during these months. There are only short brief walks on this tour and sandal type footwear is OK.
On this tour, you will be visiting Buddhist temples. Respectful dress is always appreciated. For dress we suggest the following:
