TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1
You will be collected from your Chiang Mai hotel or guest house and we will proceed to drive towards the Mae Tang area. On route we will drop by the orchid and butterfly farm and stop by at the local market where our guide will buy some fresh supplies for the trip into the hills. On arrival at the trek drop off point you will have lunch at a Shan village before commencing the first leg of the trek which is a good 2.5 hour hike up challenging trails. You will trek to a picturesque Lahu village situated on a mountain top stopping off to cool down at a jungle waterfall. The Lahu village will be the destination for the night where you can spend late afternoon and evening in the village and kick back and relax after the days trek. Your guide will prepare your evening meal and you can spend the rest of the evening relaxing with your fellow trekkers over a few drinks.

Day 2

The mornings up in the hills are refreshingly cool which you will appreciate before working up a sweat with the mornings trek. Breakfast will be had in the village before we embark on the mornings trek towards the waterfall. At the waterfall we can take a break for a refreshing swim. The trek will then proceed towards the river through the jungle and hill tribe farmland in the foothills. The trek will continue to the small elephant camp where you have lunch before spending 30 minutes interacting and feeding the elephants there. The trek will continue to the river and you will be briefed for the white white water rafting trip down river. You will get to raft around 5km of some great rapids (the best an biggest rapids can usually be found in the wetter months between may and November) but the rafting is still fun all year round. The river calms in the lower stretches and here will will change to bamboo rafts where you can kick back and relax while the great scenery passes you by or feel free to pick up a pole and try piloting the raft yourself! Our day will finish with you boarding the waiting transport for the drive back to Chiang Mai.

ELEPHANT UPDATE Dec 2016: A choice is now offered of elephant feeding or elephant riding. If you prefer not to ride elephants you can take the choice to feed them instead.

info icon What to wear
Wear light clothes as trekking in this part of the world can be hot and sweaty work. Shorts, T shirt and a sun hat are ideal. Long trousers are OK as they will protect your lower legs more but will be hotter to wear. Although hiking boots aren’t a necessity at least a sturdy pair of running shoes should be worn. Some people trek with sandals but they do leave your feet open to be scratched by vegetation also flip flops (thongs) aren’t appropriate as they don't provide enough support. In the rainy season from April to October bring a rain coat. Bring a change of clothes for after the rafting. Please be sensitive about your dress in the hill tribe village short and t shirts are OK but nothing to revealing please.

info icon What to bring
A small rucksack/day sack, shorts and T shirt for trekking (long trousers if you prefer), A change of clothes (shorts & t shirt) especially useful in the wet season to change into at the end of the day, warm jumper/fleece for cool season, Walking shoes, socks, swimming suit, small towel/sarong, insect spray, sun cream, raincoat (rainy season), some toilet paper, one bottle of water. Some money for drinks and hill tribe crafts. Bring a change of clothes to change into after the whitewater rafting…..You will get wet! No bedding or sleeping bags are required as we supply all the necessary sleeping equipment.

info icon Pick up and drop off
Free pick up and drop off is included to and from any Chiang Mai city hotel. Sorry we can not pick up from out of town resorts.
